Join Us for Our 2024 Speaker Series

Our monthly meetings bring together Airlift’s Partner Groups, special guests, and Airlift leaders to discuss the Airlift mission and explore how we can take action to ensure that democracy works for all of us. You will meet special guests who have devoted their lives and careers to progressive political action. And you will meet the leaders of Airlift’s Partner Groups who work on the front lines year-round in battleground states to engage their communities about issues that are critical to their lives. Our meetings are lively, informative and inspiring. We hope you will join us!

Abortion 2024: The key is reaching Moderate Women

Ariel Volk & Urooj Mughal

Abortion is on the ballot everywhere this year, and to ensure that abortion rights are protected, we need to flip the House from Red to Blue. Moderate women in rural, small-town, and suburban communities are the key to victory. Come learn how Galvanize Action motivates these women to vote their Blue values on issues like abortion, healthcare, childcare, and other aspects of the “care economy" through research-backed messaging.

+ Featured Airlift Partner Group: Communities for a New California

Winning back the House goes through California, and three of those flippable districts are in the Central Valley. That’s why we’re thrilled to also hear from leaders of Airlift Partner Communities for a New California (CNC), which mobilizes Latina women there to vote Blue using person-to-person, values-driven outreach on abortion and pocketbook issues. CNC knows the power of these women as leaders in their families and communities to flip the House and so much more. Help CNC thwart the GOP’s extremist agenda, including their determination to control what women can do with their own bodies.

Michigan: Protecting the People’s Vote

With special guests Jocelyn Benson, Michigan’s Secretary of State and winner of the JFK Profile in Courage Award; and Art Reyes, Founder and Director of We the People Action Fund.

Republican attempts to suppress the vote through restricting access, intimidation, and misinformation are painfully evident in many battleground states. Thankfully, Secretary of State Benson and We the People were instrumental in fighting back against Michigan’s GOP’s attempts to overturn the election results in 2020, and are ready again in 2024. We the People has been absolutely crucial in flipping the state legislature and turning out the vote in hard-to-reach communities throughout Michigan.

Pennsylvania: Putting Democracy into Action

With special guests Heather Cox Richardson, Award-winning historian and author of “Letters from an American” and Democracy Awakening: Notes on the State of America; and Carrie Santoro and Edwin Stubbs of Pennsylvania Stands Up

The struggle for economic justice, expanding rights, and defending democracy has long been foundational to the American experiment, and this year is no exception. HCR inspires us to shape our future: "As I look around the country at all the people knocking on doors, writing letters, marching, raising money or the other things people on this call are doing, I think about the fact that we get to be part of this movement that speaks so highly to that long tradition in the United States of trying to expand rights and defend democracy, and I feel we can do it."

North Carolina: Turning Purple to Blue

With special guests Anderson Clayton, the new dynamic Chair of North Carolina’s Democratic Party; and Dreama Caldwell and Theo Luebke, leaders of Down Home North Carolina and Carolina Federation

There is no “purple” state in the nation more primed to transform into a solid progressive bulwark than North Carolina. “The road to the White House goes right through North Carolina,” Clayton notes, and she and Airlift’s Partner Groups are working tirelessly to win not just the Presidency, but blue victories for statewide offices and the legislature as well, this year and beyond.

In-person or virtual house parties have proven to be our most effective way of helping people understand why it’s so important to encourage political giving towards community-based grassroots groups. In this new pandemic environment, we shifted our format so we can still effectively expand and educate our network of supporters through virtual house parties.
